WHAT AND WHERE IS THE PROSTATE IN MEN?
The team here at EC Bio-Health Technology carried out a little survey here in United Kingdom recently, to try and gauge the percentage of our African adult men who know what the Prostate is, and where it is located in the human anatomy of an adult male?
What Is The Prostate?
The "prostate" is a small gland just about the size of a walnut. Apart from helping to control the flow of urine, the primary function of this organ is that it secrets an alkaline fluid which forms about 70% of adult male sperm. In other words, the prostate gland releases semen fluid during male male ejaculation; which mixes with your spermatozoa. The prostate gland is 30% muscle and 70% gland. The function of the prostate fluid is to act as lubricant which acts to prolong the life-span of the male sperm. The prostate therefore is a central organ in the overall hormone circle of the adult male.
Position of the Prostate Gland
The prostate gland is position under the bladder in front of the male rectum. It is a walnut-sized gland located between the bladder and the penis. The prostate is just in front of the rectum. And the urethra runs through the center of the prostate, from the bladder to the penis, letting urine flow out of the body.
The activities of the prostate are regulated by steroid and peptide hormones. Especially the hormone known as testosterone influences the activities and condition of the prostate gland.

“As
An Adult African Or Caribbean Male, Are You Aware Your Risk Of
Prostate Cancer Is Three Times Greater?”
Ref: “the Process:
Cohort study, European Urology 2008”
Due to increasing and worrying trend of Prostate Cancer cases among people of African descent, more has been done in recent years by Researchers in the United States and the United Kingdom to first; try to understand the curse of the the greater risk and secondly; see if anything could be done.
In 2008, and for the first time, the Cohort Study (European Urology) findings confirm African/Caribbean Males were found to be three-times at higher risk of prostate cancer when compared to white counterparts.
What has become clear is the fact that "your African ancestral background" means your susceptibility to prostate cancer is in the region of three-times more! The higher rate of prostate cases seen among our adult African men in the UK seems to have been replicated among African-American adult males in the US, the Caribbean Islands and worse in the Africa continent itself.
In fact, a further demographic break-down of the statistics reveal that Africans in diaspora who hailed from the West African strip (including African Americans & Caribbeans of W. African descent), were at a further higher risk when compared with those from Southern, Eastern and Northern Africa.
You could choose one of three possible ways to react to that!
So, here's what we are about to do in the next few months. With the help of our able team of Researchers here at EC Bio-Health Technology, we're going to be covering several aspects on:
Why Every African Adult Male Should be More Educated About Prostate Cancer than Our White and Hispanic Counterparts. These include;

- A few of us may cowardly shy away due to fear and adopt the what ever will be will be attitude.
- And some of us may go for the popular Afro-male attitude towards health; "whatever you don't know won't kill you." Fortunately, we now know better that what you don't know early enough is what actually kills!
- Or rightly, you could go for the correct approach. Decide to equip yourself with all the right knowledge about prostate cancer and the African adult male.

Why Every African Adult Male Should be More Educated About Prostate Cancer than Our White and Hispanic Counterparts. These include;
- What is the Prostate?
- The Facts and Figures about Prostate Cancer
- Why the African Adult Male is Hot Target
- Types of Prostate Cases in Afro-men
- Symptoms to watch out for
- What you should be doing
- The Power of early detection
Next week, we're going to show you just what the prostate organ is in your body,
What role it plays,
And why prostate cancer in men is somewhat an equivalent of breast cancer in women.
Most of our women check themselves regularly against breast cancer. Have you ever been doing anything against prostate cancer!
Why not forward this link to a dear African adult male? You may have saved a life in the process!
